The first time you touch the water should NOT be after the gun goes off! -
A proper tri warm-up should include getting in the water if at all possible. Too often we warm up with a run and a bike then get in our wetsuit and get in the starting corral with our wave. You MUST swim before your race for a number of reasons.
- Warm ups are good - It is crucial to warm up for any race and swimming is no different. Don't risk injury by not getting your arms moving.
- Conditions - How cold is the water? How warm is the water? What is the bottom contour like? How quickly does it drop off? How strong are the waves? Currents? The only way to find out is to get in!
- Confidence - An athlete that knows what is coming is a confident athlete. A confident athlete will always achieve at a higher level.
